In partnership with GiveDirectly, our portfolio company Propel leveraged their database of more than 500,000 daily active users to identify Americans who are struggling to make ends meet amid COVID-19. Using Propel’s Fresh EBT app, hundreds of low-income users will receive a one-time $1,000 payment which they can use to buy groceries, pay bills, and more.
President and co-founder of GiveDirectly, Michael Faye, says “80 percent of these people will have lost work or received a reduction in wages…The urgency of the crisis cannot be understated. The difference between getting someone a check — or buying a load of groceries now versus waiting a month or so is pretty meaningful.”
