Flourish Executives Outline India Investment Strategy (VCCircle Interview)

In August 2024, Tilman Ehrbeck and Ravi Kaushik sat down with Aman Rawat of VCCircle, a venture capital news outlet for India. Together, they discussed Flourish's current investments totaling $30 million in 10 companies and the trends they are seeing in India.

Below are selected comments from the interview: (full article here)

  • "India is a key market in the sense that there is quite a bit of innovation coming out of the country," said Tilman Ehrbeck. "Fintech innovation and public digital infrastructure innovation in the early years are often relevant for other emerging markets. We also invest in India to learn and export that thinking to other emerging markets. In India, we were  intrigued with digital public infrastructure because it lowers the cost to the entire system and makes business models feasible that previously weren't."
  • Ravi Kaushik commented: "We continue to invest in India as we are bullish, long-term investors in India. Some of the innovations we're seeing in India are way ahead of several countries we operate in, including several developed countries."
  • Financial infrastructure continues to be an area of keen interest," added Kaushik. "We think of infrastructure as the pipes and the plumbing that run the financial system. That should ideally make the financial system faster, more efficient, and more cost-effective. Also, we think that there is still a lot to be done on the payments side–be it domestic payments or cross-border payments. We're also starting to see some exciting themes come out in the wealthtech space, beyond equities and mutual funds."
