Flourish Ventures promotes Ameya Upadhyay to General Partner
Since joining Flourish, Ameya has focused on fintech founders across emerging markets who are reshaping how financial services are built and delivered. He invests in entrepreneurs building critical financial infrastructure across India, Africa, the Middle East, and beyond. He also works on Flourish’s global payments infrastructure investments with a focus on cross-border and stable-native companies.
“Ameya offers a unique combination of hustle and systems-level thinking that aligns closely with what makes Flourish distinctive,” said Arjuna Costa, Co-founder and Managing Director. “He’s as comfortable examining how individual investments fit into our broader theory of change and contribute, collectively, to a fairer financial system as he is finding exceptional founders, underwriting early opportunities, supporting companies through growth, and studiously considering outcomes and exits.”
Ameya brings deep knowledge, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to his job. He considers companies that are attractive venture opportunities with the potential to move the underlying financial system in a more inclusive and durable direction. Ameya’s portfolio includes Flutterwave, FairMoney, Stitch, Lendable, Cauridor, HoneyCoin, Lorum, MoneyHash, and Kulipa, amongst others.
Early in his Flourish tenure, Ameya helped build out a financial services portfolio in India, a challenge during the pre-UPI period when lending models were still dominant, and the ecosystem looked very different. More recently, he has expanded Flourish’s push into Africa. He led the company’s pre-seed investment in Flutterwave, supporting the founders as they grew the company into a cornerstone of fintech-enabled transformation in Nigeria and across Africa.
Ameya played a principal role in conceiving and launching Madica, Flourish’s pre-seed, stage-agnostic Africa fund. Madica aims to level the playing field at the very earliest stages of venture by providing capital and high-quality support to founders who often struggle to access both because they sit outside traditional networks and in-circles. The fund has made over a dozen investments.
In addition to his regional focus, Ameya works on Flourish’s global payments infrastructure investments, backing companies that move money across borders, including those leveraging blockchain and stablecoin-based rails. He uncovers category-defining companies while also supporting a broader set of founders building durable, mission-critical financial infrastructure.
Ameya champions founders. A simple philosophy guides his interactions: always available, and everything we can do. He’s accessible to founders regardless of time or circumstance, thoughtfully adapting to provide what they need in that moment. He has also discovered, hired, and mentored talent at Flourish, supporting and nurturing numerous careers.
As General Partner, Ameya will continue working closely with founders and helping guide the firm’s long-term strategy across regions and platforms. His efforts contribute to fairer financial products and services, and to the capacity of these markets to produce durable, transformative businesses.
