Flourish Ventures Promotes Efayomi Carr to Investment Partner

Efayomi joined as Flourish’s first employee in Africa. He successfully expanded the firm’s presence on the continent and in the Middle East. Efayomi excels at working closely with the founders who are building durable, region-defining companies. He has led investments in Honeycoin, Littlefish, and Earthacre, while supporting ones in Flash, Lorum, MaxAB, MoneyHash, and more.

“This promotion feels less like a step up and more like recognising the role Efa is already playing,” said Ameya Upadhyay, General Partner at Flourish Ventures. “He’s handled difficult situations with composure and care, and has become one of the most credible voices in fintech on the continent. Founders trust Efa instinctively. His warmth is genuine, and under pressure he’s calm, thoughtful, and rigorous. That combination is rare, and it shows.”

Efayomi understands how startups catalyze innovation and unleash opportunity for communities. He believes in the potential for technologies like stablecoins and AI to be incubated in Africa and scaled globally, and is committed to championing the entrepreneurs and companies that can realize this vision. In 2021, he sourced Flourish’s first blockchain investment. This work kickstarted what has since become a core theme across the fund, including further investment in stablecoins and related policy engagement.

Efayomi played a key role in developing, hiring for, and launching Madica, Flourish’s Africa-focused early-stage platform, which now has almost 15 investments. He served on the team that developed Flourish’s climate thesis and led the initial climate-related investments in Africa.

Living and working on the ground allows Efayomi to see how critical a financial system that actually works for people and businesses is. Many of the challenges that Flourish portfolio companies are addressing are ones his family and community experience firsthand. He knows how improving access drives development, resilience, and opportunity. In his native Sierra Leone, Efayomi sits on the Minister’s Advisory Council for Technology and Entrepreneurship while supporting the Mayor of Freetown on investment and climate initiatives.

Before joining Flourish, Efayomi served as CFO at Lori, a logistics coordination platform. That startup experience gave him a deep empathy for the founder and entrepreneur journey. He understands the importance of resilience, patience, composure, and long-term thinking beyond the day-to-day ups and downs. Efayomi treats founders as whole humans, not just CEOs or portfolio companies. He’s accessible, anticipating founder challenges, and helping them address and problem-solve around their most pressing issues such as fundraising, hiring, and product focus. And Efayomi is always happy to simply listen.

Across his portfolio and his work at Flourish, Efayomi’s goal is consistent: build a deep, durable presence and insight in markets that matter. His promotion reflects the success he’s had in achieving this goal and his commitment to continue doing so.
